My Approach

For me, photographing a wedding isn’t about turning up with a camera and telling everyone what to do. It’s about making you, your family and your friends feel completely comfortable in my company — and, most importantly, having a bloody good time.

I keep things relaxed, natural and fun. The more comfortable you feel around me, the less you’ll think about the camera, and that’s when the magic happens. The laughs are bigger, the moments are more genuine, and the pictures feel like you rather than a collection of awkward poses.

I’ll guide you when you need it, step in when it helps, and blend into the background when the real stuff is happening. My aim is to create an atmosphere where you can forget you’re being photographed and just enjoy your day.

And honestly? If you’re my tribe, we’re going to vibe. I’m not for everyone — and that’s kind of the point. I want couples who love a bit of fun, don’t take themselves too seriously, and want their wedding photos to feel as relaxed, honest and full of personality as the day itself.

Relaxed people make the best pictures. So let’s have some fun and make some bloody good ones.

A little bit more about me…..
I live in my beloved hometown of York with my family although I have lived elsewhere.

In 1998 it was a chance meeting with a friend and a trip to the careers office that led me to join the RAF as a Ground Photographer. I was taught by some of the UK’s best professional photographers and from the first time I produced a picture in the dark room (yes, I have been doing this that long) I just knew I was in the right job.

Photography married my two of passions, the ability to be creative and been around lots and lots of people.

After 10 years I left the Airforce so we could stop travelling the UK and return to York to raise my family and shortly after started JoanneB Photography.

My two proudest work related achievements are that I won ‘Top Student’ award during my training with the RAF because of my ability to work with people and in 2019 my past Bride and Grooms voted me the Best Wedding Photographer in Customer Service.

Because it’s not just about whether you like my photographs or my prices — I need to be the kind of person who gets on with your bridesmaids, makes your Dad laugh, and can happily chat to that vegan friend from school you haven’t seen in 10 years (not that I have anything against vegans!).
